Women of the Church

The women of Oconee ARP have had a rich year.

We have studied the  Life of David and many of the Psalms and now look forward to The War of Words by Paul David Tripp over the summer.

In the fall we gathered for a fun "get acquainted" tea, complete with hats, china, scones and lots of good conversation.

We traveled to Thompson, Georgia for a Presbytery meeting and learned more about the Collins Home right in our own back yard.

Our missionaries in Turkey and the Ukraine were on our hearts at Christmas, and we had fun assembling and sending  great packages to them.

As usual the women worked hard on our Hospice project.  Kay Miller introduced us to the redneck iced tea glass concept, so we made and filled them with goodies. They were a hit.  We also made hairbands and flowers out of extravagant fabrics.

Our traditional white elephant luncheon at Barb Patterson's was well attended and full of laughter.  We already look forward to next year's.

This winter we visited Bonclarken in Flat Rock, our denomination's retreat center, checked out the gift store which we support, and had good fellowship over lunch in Hendersonville.

In the spring we supported our presbytery by attending its retreat in Toccoa, at which we were encouraged to lay our burdens at the feet of the cross and to travel light.

Suzanne Norton began a knitting circle the first Monday of each month, at which we are making hats for babies here, and helmet caps for soldiers in Afghanistan.  We have discovered it is a peacfeul way to get to know one another too.

Recently we began decoupaging plates with beautiful fabrics, to be sold at Bonclarken, and to be  used at our upcoming conference and Hospice fund raiser.

This May many men and women in our church gathered at the Keowee Key pavilion for a picnic dinner, games and fellowship.

Our parlor is being transformed and readied for the Second Presbytery Conference we will be hosting this October 13th under the able leadership of Bobbie Anderson, our pastor's wife.  Our pastor will be speaking on the role of women  in the reformed church.

We have the beginning of a good church library that we are purging, adding to and using more, thanks to our pastor's love for good books and his recommendations.

Thanks to this year's board, Carolyn Grulich, Linda Harris, Jingle Robinson and Pat Wright.

Next year our officers are Linda Harris, Dorcas Marcinak, Norma Petzold and  Pat Wright.  We look forward to supporting them.

Come join us!
